He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

As a Climate Analyst, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s sustainability goals and aligning our mahi with Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan. You’ll lead the way in emissions reporting and data analysis—particularly expanding Scope 3 emissions measurement—and use insights to strengthen decision-making across the organisation. This includes reviewing climate scenarios, assessing their impact on operations, and measuring emissions for major events—an exciting opportunity to combine analytical expertise with tangible climate outcomes. You’ll bring a data-driven lens to sustainability, building capability across teams and ensuring our climate reporting is robust, transparent, and continuously improving.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reporting and analysis, including developing and understanding the Scope 3 full-value chain for emissions reporting and target.
  • Coordinate climate data and reporting workstreams, ensuring accurate information for annual disclosures and the Climate & Sustainability Report.
  • Review and enhance processes for climate data analysis, including managing emissions inventories, audits, and scenario assessments.
  • Support strategic planning and capacity-building by clearly communicating climate insights, building organisational understanding, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.

Skilled in interpreting data and building stories that inform senior advisors and leaders, the role demands confidence in simplifying technical information for a range of audiences, from frontline staff to board level. Highly motivated and passionate about sustainability, this analyst thrives on continuous learning, staying ahead of emerging climate trends and innovations in data analytics. With a strong sense of purpose and curiosity, the work directly contributes to shaping how Tātaki Auckland Unlimited delivers its climate ambitions.

 

Key job requirements:

 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or 5+ years’ experience in climate, sustainability, environmental science, or data analysis.
  • Proven track record in emissions reporting and greenhouse gas accounting, including Scope 3 and ISO 14064 standards.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills to produce clear, accurate data reports and dashboards that inform strategic action.
  • Strong understanding of climate risk—both physical and transitional—and its impact on business performance.
  • Confident in communicating insights at all levels, with awareness of local government context, equitable climate outcomes, and te ao Māori alignment.
