He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are looking for a Climate Action Specialist to join our team, on a fixed term part time basis. You will be part of a passionate and professional team developing and delivering regional and local projects to deliver on the goals of Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland's Climate Plan. The key initiatives you will be responsible for is in developing (or building on) opportunities to deliver climate outcomes through internal and external partners. 
 
Please note:

  • This is a Fixed Term Part Time opportunity, covering 24 hours/week (ending 13/03/2026).
  • This role is internally referred to as Low Carbon Specialist.

 
He kōrero mōu: About you

You will be passionate about supporting and activating local responses to the climate crisis across all sectors. Your collaborative approach, teamed with great project execution and relationship building skills, will be essential to be successful in this role. 
You will have a good understanding of sustainability and carbon emissions in a household and community (and/or be able to acquire and research new information as required). You will be confident translating technical information for a range of audiences, and have a good understanding of working with communications and marketing. 

 
You will also have:

  • Experience in a local or central government role is desirable
  • Ability to provide subject matter expertise to internal and external customers on effective climate action initiatives and how to engage audiences/communities in these
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong relationship building and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and tikanga and/or a willingness to learn
  • Relevant tertiary qualification: Social Science / Climate Change / Environmental Science / Community Development / Communications / Policy / Marketing / Communications
