He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

We are looking for a China Business Support Coordinator to join our Destination rōpū at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited. Working across tourism, business events, conventions, major events, Screen Auckland, and partnerships, this role plays a key part in strengthening Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s presence in the China market. You’ll support multiple teams, providing specialist language skills, cultural competency, and relationship management with Chinese partners. A large part of the role will involve translation services and partner engagement for both the Business Events and Tourism teams, as well as supporting major events such as the BNZ Auckland Lantern Festival. Between now and March, you’ll be highly involved in festival and community work, while later in the year your focus will shift to tourism and business events, including conferences and Chinese delegations and ad-hoc support for Screen Auckland. This is a varied and flexible role, ideal for someone who thrives in a busy environment and enjoys working across diverse projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide specialist language and translation support across major events, including marketing collateral, sponsorship agreements, health and safety documents, and performer communications.
  • Assist the Tourism team with Chinese market engagement, including the preparation for the team to attend roadshows and in market activity, the creation of marketing material, translation for Chinese social media channels, famils of agents and media from China.
  • Assist the Business Events team with Chinese market engagement, including marketing materials, promotional campaigns, site visits, airport and airline partnerships.
  • Support Growth Marketing and Major Events teams with grant funding processes and partnerships for Lantern and Diwali Festivals.
  • Act as a liaison between Auckland stakeholders and Chinese partners, offering cultural insights, business etiquette guidance, and translation services to strengthen relationships.
  • Deliver administrative and stakeholder support, including CRM oversight, meeting coordination, reporting, Chinese media insights, and general communication support.

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

You’ll bring 2–5 years of administration experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities across a range of stakeholders. This role requires someone who is agile, highly organised, and coordination-focused, with strong technological skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude. You’ll need to be available in the office a minimum of four days each week to provide support to the teams withing the Destination rōpū and be flexible to work outside normal hours when hosting delegations or events. From time to time, travel may also be required. Above all, cultural fit, adaptability, and the ability to juggle competing priorities will be key to success.

 

Key Skills:

 

  • Fluency in Mandarin (Cantonese optional), with strong industry knowledge in tourism or events.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven project and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, show initiative, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively across diverse teams.
