Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in helping us achieve our vision of making Auckland the most active city in the world. Right now, we’re looking for a casual Team Member to support our Learn to Swim programme at Tepid Baths — and help us bring that vision to life!
This is a fantastic opportunity that doesn’t require any formal qualifications or prior experience — just a genuine passion for working with our diverse community and making a positive impact. We’ll provide all the training you need to succeed in the role.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Teaching people the basic principles of how to swim (we'll teach you how to do this!)
- Maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors
- Being part of an amazing team serving your local community
- Supporting our customer service team and other functions in the centre when required
This is an on-site position. Our centre opens from 5:30 am - 9:00 pm on weekdays and 7:00 am to 6:00 pm on weekends; the ability to work early night, late night, and weekends is crucial.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You will be a great swimmer and instructor, have a love of water, have exceptional customer service skills, and be able to communicate well with members of the public.
Previous experience working with children would be beneficial.
If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that’d be fantastic. However, we will provide full, comprehensive training that you need to excel in the job. If you do not have a recognised swim teacher qualification ,AUSTSWIM, or a first-aid certificate.
Successful candidate will be comfortable in the water and be able to:
- Swim 20 metres freestyle
- 20 metres backstroke
- Tread water for 3 minutes
In addition to your swimming skills, we're looking for individuals with proven administration and communication skills, a track record of providing outstanding customer service, and excellent maturity and reliability. As you'll be working on a variable roster, access to a reliable method of transport is essential.

Pay rate: $27.80+ /hr
Our employer KiwiSaver contribution is in addition to the base salary offered.
