He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Parks & Community Facilities is a department within the Community Directorate, and has the privilege and commitment to ensure community assets are fit for purpose, delivering outstanding community experiences and outcomes for Aucklanders. As kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council facilities, we play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing of our communities while also delivering strategically significant programmes.

Join us as a Business Process Specialist and play a key role in shaping how we work, by creating clarity, consistency, and continuous improvement. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of how we operate—mapping out our core business processes and helping us unlock opportunities to work more efficiently and deliver better outcomes for both our people and our customers. You’ll build and maintain a central knowledge base that brings our processes to life in a way that’s clear, user-friendly, and easy to access.

You’ll work closely with teams across the business, facilitating workshops, capturing the real story behind how things work, and spotting ways we can make them better.

You’ll also champion best practices in process management—helping to build a culture of continuous improvement, and making sure our documentation is not only up to date, but genuinely useful. From prioritising initiatives with stakeholders to supporting wider business improvement programmes, your work will make a real difference to how we deliver value every day.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We’re looking for someone who brings both a sharp analytical mind and a collaborative, people-focused approach to the table. You’ll have a solid toolkit of process documentation and analysis techniques — things like value stream mapping, SIPOC, and swimlane diagrams — and know how to use them to make sense of complex workflows.

You’ll be confident using tools like Promapp, Visio, or Lucidchart to map out processes in a way that’s clear, consistent, and accessible to a wide range of audiences. Just as importantly, you’ll be a natural communicator — able to engage with stakeholders at all levels, lead workshops, and translate insights into actionable recommendations. With a strong sense of prioritisation, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to juggle multiple initiatives, you’ll thrive in a busy environment where your work truly drives improvement. If you enjoy turning complexity into clarity and like working in partnership with others to make things better, we’d love to hear from you.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

You’ll be joining a team of diverse dedicated and respected experts working collaboratively across the region, who are passionate about delivering tangible results for the community and future generations.

We have a culture built on trust and valuing individual as well as collective contributions. Working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, you will have some flexibility with how those hours are set.

In return for your hard work, you can expect a flexible and supportive work environment. Ehara taku toa, he takitahi, he toa takitini My success is not mine alone, but the success of many.
