Business Applications Technical Lead

We’re looking for a Business Applications Technical Lead to join our Business Systems team within Group Services.

This is a senior role where you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of business applications that support how Council operates day to day. You’ll lead end to end delivery across design, build, and ongoing service, while working closely with the business to make sure what we deliver actually lands and adds value.

You’ll be the person people come to for advice, someone who understands both the technical landscape and the business need, and knows how to bring the two together. Alongside this, you’ll lead and support a small group of specialists, helping them do their best work.

Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities
• Own the delivery of business applications from planning through to implementation and ongoing support
• Build strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders and act as their go to for technology advice
• Develop and maintain clear product roadmaps aligned to business priorities
• Manage and prioritise a pipeline of work, balancing value, risk, and demand
• Lead and support Business Systems Specialists, creating a strong and collaborative team environment
• Manage vendors and contracts to ensure quality delivery and value for money
• Drive continuous improvement and lift how services are delivered
• Lead or support proof of concepts and new ways of working, including agile approaches
• Contribute to procurement activity, including RFPs and vendor selection
• Ensure systems are secure, supported, and fit for purpose

You’re someone who can operate comfortably across both the technical and business worlds.

You know how to lead delivery, but you also know how to build relationships, influence decisions, and keep things moving when priorities compete. You’re practical, commercially aware, and focused on outcomes rather than just activity.

You’ll likely bring:
• Experience leading delivery of business applications or enterprise systems
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work with senior leaders
• Experience managing vendors, contracts, and budgets
• A solid understanding of enterprise platforms such as CRM, ERP, CMS or integration technologies
• The ability to prioritise and manage multiple pieces of work at once
• A mindset focused on continuous improvement and delivering real value
