As one of the largest Building Consents departments in the Southern Hemisphere, we provide comprehensive services including advice on Building Act and Code requirements, consent application assessments, approvals, construction inspections, building remediations and Code Compliance Certificates. Are you ready to diversify your work life and take on an exciting new challenge? Auckland Council is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Building Surveyor for our Reclad processing role.
As part of our dynamic team, you'll play a vital role in ensuring compliance with the Building Act 2004 and the New Zealand Building Code while contributing to innovative projects that enhance building controls performance.
On a day-to-day basis, you'll be processing complex remediation building consent applications, providing guidance to peers and industry professionals on remediation strategies and alternative solutions. Your in-depth knowledge of building regulations and legislation will be put to good use as you provide technical advice and support to our legal team to ensure regulatory compliance.

You bring both technical expertise and strong people skills to the table. With a solid grounding in building design and construction, you’re confident navigating complex projects and thrive on solving problems with a process‑driven mindset. You see the bigger picture, connecting disciplines to streamline systems and deliver positive outcomes for communities.
To excel in this role, you’ll hold a National Diploma in Building Control Surveying (or equivalent qualification) and have at least five years’ relevant experience in the building regulatory or related industry. Ideally, your background includes significant involvement in reclad building work and large‑scale remediation projects, where you’ve managed and negotiated outcomes with confidence. A strong understanding of the Building Act 2004, the New Zealand Building Code, and other relevant standards will ensure you’re well equipped to drive excellence in building compliance and remediation.
We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Strong subject matter expertise in relevant building design and/or construction
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong interpersonal abilities with a customer‑focused approach
- Strong analytical skills with a high level of numeracy, attention to detail, and the ability to apply integrated solutions to problem solving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Visio, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)

The remuneration range for this role is $88,528 - $93,000 (Based on skills and experience)
