He angitūtanga: The opportunity  

Auckland Council is seeking a dedicated Compliance Officer to join the Biosecurity Compliance Programme and play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective delivery of multi-disciplinary compliance services within the Auckland Region. The Compliance Officer will support proactive projects that focus on identifying and addressing patterns of risk and harm, with the aim of reducing ongoing compliance issues.

 

This role involves utilising a broad spectrum of intervention tools, from education campaigns to the mobilisation of enforcement teams, and tailoring approaches to address root causes. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across councils, agencies, and communities, contributing to the delivery of the Māori Responsiveness Plan for Tāmaki Makaurau and ensuring alignment with the council’s broader objectives to achieve Māori outcomes.

 

This role works 40 hours per week, with agreed hours between Monday to Sunday and on-call.

You are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and has a passion for compliance and risk management. Your experience in the compliance or regulatory sector, combined with your strong knowledge of local government legislation, positions you to excel in this role.

Key responsibilities include designing and implementing compliance projects, providing guidance to customers, and managing conflict situations effectively. You'll also contribute to compliance improvements, professional development, and actively participate in the delivery of proactive initiatives.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A good understanding of local government legislation, including the Resource Management Act, Building Act, and the Local Government Act, as well as Auckland’s Unitary Plan.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities, with a desire to work within Māori frameworks.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a compliance or regulatory environment.
  • A technical or professional qualification in a relevant compliance discipline.
