He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We are recruiting for both an Advisor and a Senior Advisor to join the Councillor Support Team. These are challenging roles, so a good attitude and resilience are required.

As part of the councillor support team, you will provide high-level administrative, advisory and relationship management support to members of the governing body.

You will be working at the heart of council’s political and decision-making processes, supporting a diverse group of the key decision makers for Tāmaki Makaurau. This is an opportunity to work with Auckland’s leaders at we kick off the 2022-2025 electoral term, led by a new Mayor!

This dynamic, hardworking, professional team provides councillors with the support, advice and connections they need to operate efficiently, provide leadership and engage with the people of Tāmaki Makaurau. We foster an inclusive culture and celebrate diversity in all its forms.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are seeking passionate Aucklanders who are resilient, proactive team players and adept at building relationships. Ideally, you have experience in the public sector and a relevant tertiary qualification.

For the Advisor role, this is a great opportunity to enter into the advisory space and gain experience working with elected members. For the Senior Advisor role, we are looking for an experienced advisor (ideally three years minimum) who is ready to step up support elected members at a higher level; lead a group of advisors in supporting multiple councillors; and have responsibility for coaching and mentoring those advisors.

Teamwork and collaboration should be second nature. Initiative, strong communication skills and good political acumen are also essential.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

Auckland Council's Democracy and Engagement department plays an invaluable role in supporting Auckland's elected members. As part of the councillor support team you will be offered fantastic insight into how Auckland is governed and an opportunity to be part of the exciting changes taking place across the region.

The Democracy and Engagement Department is proudly Rainbow Tick Accredited, and we actively encourage a diverse range of applicants.
