This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping how Auckland Council partners with community and supports community-led delivery. As an Advisor, you’ll bring your experience in community development and strategic advice. You’ll support the design and delivery of programmes that reflect the aspirations of diverse communities. If you’re passionate about authentic engagement, building enduring relationships, and championing positive change, this role offers the chance to influence outcomes at a local level.
This is a fixed term role for 12 months, working 40 hours per week, flexibly between our Albert Street Office, the communities you will be working in & your own home.
Te hiranga o tēnei mahi: Why this role matters
This role is central to supporting the Community Programme Delivery team to achieve meaningful outcomes through involvement in strategically selected initiatives, and ensuring milestones are met. An increase in more locally designed and delivered initiatives means that local community have more opportunities to shape local decision-making and a diverse range of people have more opportunities for engagement and participation in public and community life.
Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities
• Provide operational support tailored primarily to local board work programmes in a range of areas such as community-led planning, place making, leadership development, inclusive engagement and participation, assessing community needs, facilitation, project management and building capacity.
• Provide advice to promote social inclusion and identify, develop and support opportunities for communities to run engagement processes and other community initiatives themselves.
• Display a high level of political judgement and sensitivity and inspire the confidence of elected members and the local board teams.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with local boards and local communities.
• Support the devolution of resources to communities.

We’re seeking someone who has:
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage authentically with diverse community organisations and elected members.
- Community development experience, or related fields, supported by project management and evaluation skills.
- Clear and confident communication, with the ability to provide sound strategic advice and champion change.
- A collaborative approach, thriving in a team environment while also taking ownership of complex programmes of work.

Salary range: Band G (depending on experience): $88,000 to $93,000
