Auckland Council’s Amotai team has an opportunity for a Capability Manager to join the team and help us work towards advancing supplier diversity across our Buyer Membership. This is a great opportunity to work with a high performing team, that has a national reach and is making a direct impact for Māori and Pasifika businesses across Aotearoa. 


Please note, this is a fixed term opportunity to December 2022. There is the ability to work remotely from Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. 


Amotai is an economic initiative targeted at creating opportunity in the supply chain for Māori and Pasifika. Amotai seeks to increase the number, capability and scale of Māori and Pasifika businesses in government and corporate supply chains. 


As Capability Manager your role would be to deliver Amotai’s Buyer capability development programmes, including development of relevant workshops, resources, products and tools. 


You could expect to focus on:

  • Establishing supplier diversity standards which support Buyers to increase their social impact and spend with Amotai suppliers
  • Developing and iterating service offerings to Buyers 
  • Unlocking procurement opportunities for Māori and Pasifika businesses
  • Transitioning Buyer relationships to Regional Relationship Managers 
  • Integrating Buyer systems and processes that advance monitoring and reporting of outcomes
  • Contribute to becoming the Centre for Excellence in Supplier Diversity

He kōrero mōu: About you


This role requires strong experience in similar roles, with demonstrated experience working across Māori and Pasifika businesses sectors and within buyer organisations.


You’ll need to have a proven knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies, cultures and issues affecting Māori and Pasifika people in business. This will be paired with well-developed interpersonal skills demonstrating a positive approach to client service and managing expectations of Amotai members, partners and suppliers.


We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Ability to interact with all levels of business from C-suite to operations
  • Small to medium business enterprises in New Zealand
  • Presenting to large audiences, 
  • Preparing reports, business letters and general correspondence
