He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council is pleased to seek applications for appointment to the Watercare Services Limited Board in 2026.

Your leadership and guidance will help us continue to deliver high quality water services for Auckland. At the same time, you will support the transition of Watercare within a new financial and regulatory frameworks to ensure the sustainable delivery of infrastructure to provide Auckland’s water services.

Your leadership will govern Watercare across the lifecycle of water infrastructure, including planning, design, build through to asset management, maintenance and renewals. You will promote efficient and cost effective delivery, supporting commercial disciplines and the transformation of Watercare’s business.

You will act with personal integrity and moral leadership with wise and thorough decision-making. Board members are accountable and responsive to the direction set by Auckland Council for the benefit of Aucklanders. Directors are expected to act with a public service ethos, have a commitment to collaborate across the council group, to uphold the Treaty of Waitangi and promote improved outcomes for Māori, to demonstrate financial accountability and drive a focus on value for money.

On behalf of the Auckland Council shareholder, you will place Watercare’s customers at the forefront of your decision making, support taking into account their needs for a cost-effective, affordable experience with minimised disruption to their everyday life and business.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will need to have proven and extensive experience as a leader of large-scale, complex organisations.

We are looking for candidates with deep experience in the following areas:

  • Built infrastructure delivery: expertise in the design and build of major infrastructure, preferably of utilities or other major civil works
  • Asset management: expertise in the management of a multi-billion dollar asset portfolio, including renewals and maintenance
  • A track record of achieving value for money with effective risk management in delivering capital investments and asset management.

Auckland Council encourages diversity on boards and seeks a range of perspectives to support robust decision making. Auckland Council has a preference for appointing Directors who have a connection to the Auckland community and are based in the Auckland region.
