Volunteer Coordinator – Auckland Zoo

 

Auckland Zoo’s mission is to bring people together to build a future for wildlife. We achieve this by demonstrating care for wildlife, inspiring visitors to value wildlife, supporting conservation efforts, and fostering a high-performance culture.

 

As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will take charge of the daily operations of our Volunteer Programme, managing a team of 15–20 volunteers each day and overseeing a total of around 180 volunteers. Your mission will be to ensure the volunteer team is effectively engaged and aligned with the Zoo’s goals, enhancing the visitor experience, and supporting our Animal Care and Conservation teams.

 

This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours) working rostered days of Sunday to Thursday.

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

We are looking for someone with leadership experience and the confidence to excel in a sole-charge role, combined with a background in training, coaching, or working in adult learning environments. Strong organizational, communication, and relationship management skills are essential, along with a passion for visitor engagement and delivering exceptional customer service. The role also requires reasonable fitness to actively oversee and support volunteer activities across the Zoo.

 

To guide you further you will ideally have a qualification in teaching, adult learning, or social sciences, or equivalent practical experience.

The salary for this role is $63,000 - $65,850 (per annum, skills and experience dependant)
