Auckland Council’s Regulatory Engineering department has an exciting permanent full - time opportunity for a Traffic Engineer to join the team!
Regulatory Engineering is a new department within the Regulatory Services directorate and our area of expertise is in land development.
As a Traffic engineer you would be providing traffic engineering technical support to development engineers, planners, Auckland Transport, and external customers.
This role is your chance to use your Traffic Engineering skills and ensure the timely and accurate provision of professional and technical traffic engineering advice on asset approvals, building consents (and associated planning applications) consistent with Council’s codes of practice, engineering and infrastructure design standards and other relevant frameworks.

He kōrero mōu: About you
A successful candidate will ideally have:
- A tertiary qualification in civil engineering including relevant traffic engineering components.
- Have at least three years of relevant engineering experience.
- An understanding and knowledge of the Resource Management Act, District/Regional Plans, Building Act and Local Government Act and/or site experience on developments within New Zealand.
- A current New Zealand driver’s license is essential as you would be required travel regionally.
- You’ll also have experience in project management, can take initiative and ownership to work with the engineers and consultants to deliver high quality engineering outcomes
- Knowledge of the local government environment would also be highly advantageous.
- As you’ll be joining a collaborative team environment, you’ll be a strong communicator.
