He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our Sustainable Schools team has an opportunity for a Fixed Term Part Time (32h/week, ending 1st June 2026) Sustainable Schools Advisor to join a friendly team who are passionate about achieving tangible sustainability outcomes in Tāmaki Makaurau.
This exciting opportunity is to work closely with Auckland schools and their communities and help us support and build new and innovative sustainability initiatives through student-led action.
You will engage with pre-schools, kura, wharekura and schools to embrace Māori world views with the purpose of fostering kaitiakitanga in our community.
You will work with the Team Manager to deliver and implement Auckland Council’s leadership role to catalyse, integrate and deliver sustainability education initiatives in south Auckland.
You can expect to work on:
- Contributing to programmes like youth climate resilience, low carbon living, water quality, biodiversity and waste minimisation in schools,
- Aligning to school programmes to ensure best practise of educational learning and implementing behavioural changes,
- Empowering young people to take action for a sustainable environment,
- Provide professional development opportunities for teachers around sustainability education and action in schools and their community
He kōrero mōu: About you
For this role, we’re looking for experienced teachers, facilitators or sustainability champions who have proven leadership skills and expertise in implementing environmental education for sustainability programmes in schools.
You will be resilient, adaptable, positive and relish engaging and enabling communities! You’ll also be open minded and customer-focused; inspiring schools and community partners to work together to promote and commit to sustainable communities and kaitiakitanga.
We will be looking for experience in:
- Working with Māori and multi-cultural communities,
- Understanding of the NZ Curriculum and/or Te Whāriki,
- Teaching or education programme delivery and development
- Please note: A current NZ Driver’s license is required for any travel across the region.
