Auckland's unique environment, with a diverse and growing population and an expansive sport and recreation facility network (including 2,000+ community sport and recreation groups, 4,000+ parks and 500+ schools), provides many opportunities for Aucklanders to get active.
As a Sport & Recreation Lead, you will be providing quality advice to South and/or West Auckland elected members and community groups on the planning, development, and investment in sports and recreation facilities to grow the network and promote active lifestyles.
Your responsibilities:
- Provide advice and guidance to community sport and recreation organisations with respect to facility planning, development and funding
- Produce reports and memos that provide quality advice to local board elected members and support the administration of the sports and recreation facility grants programme.
- Establish and foster strategic partnerships to achieve more than we can acting alone
- Support the development of relevant local and regional sport and recreation strategies, plans and policies to ensure an aligned approach
Position Description: Sport & Recreation Lead
This is a permanent full-time position.
He kōrero mōu: About you
We're looking for critical thinkers with experience in building partnerships, facility development, policy implementation, contract management, and/or network planning. On any given day you might be meeting with community volunteers, regional or national sports organisations, schools, Ministry of Education, Sport New Zealand, Regional Sports Trusts, local board elected members and council staff.
In order to be successful for the position, you will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and report-writing skills
- Excellent relationship-building skills with different stakeholders
Ideally, you will have:
- Good knowledge of the sport and recreation community in South and/or West Auckland
- Experience working in a relevant construction sector role such as planning, legal, engineering, or project management.
- A passion for sport and recreation.

Pay range: $85k – $105k
