Auckland Council’s Marketing and Communications department are looking for a highly engaged, driven individual to join their Publicity and Content team on a fixed term contract as a Specialist Publicist. 


Working across the organisation and alongside our business partners, in the areas of Events, Parks, Community Facilities and Venues, Libraries, Pools & Leisure, and Arts teams you will be responsible for the implementation of our ‘Make the Most’ pillar across Tāmaki Makaurau. Encouraging Aucklanders to get out there and enjoy Auckland and all the assets and services that council supply to make Auckland a great place to live!

Key responsibilities of this role are:
•    Building key relationships with our stakeholders including Elected Members and operational staff including giving media guidance 
•    Working closely with our Events, Parks, Community Facilities and Venues, Libraries, Pools & Leisure and Arts teams to support and deliver proactive communications initiatives
•    Developing and writing content for all our social and online platforms
•    Writing media releases and handling of media relationships including media activations 
•    Support of marketing campaigns including informational advice, inform, invite, celebrate and revenue driving marketing campaigns
•    Ideating and writing content for Our Auckland and other owned channels

He kōrero mōu: About you


To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with 5 years' experience in delivering communication strategies, plans, activations, and campaigns.  You will have proven experience at developing excellent working relationships. Ideally you will have an appreciation of te reo Māori and are comfortable using te reo in everyday communications. You will be agile and quick thinking, embrace change and work well in a team.


We will be looking for people who have:
•    Existing relationships with media
•    A track record of getting stories covered in the media
•    A solid understanding of the media landscape
•    A strong nose for a story 
•    Quick and excellent content and release writing skills 
•    Strong social and online content development 
•    Good risk assessment / optics skills
•    An understanding of Tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi issues
