He angitūtanga: The opportunity

In this pivotal role, you'll be a go-to expert in landscape architecture and planning, providing landscape advice that will shape our region as part of the Tāmaki Makaurau Design Ope. The role is region wide and encompasses sensitive landscapes in urban, coastal and rural areas as well as complex and large-scale urban applications and providing design review services for significant public realm and streetscape projects. From major land use resource consent applications to subdivisions, your expertise will contribute to achieving excellent landscape outcomes for the city. You'll have the chance to influence Unitary plan changes, and transformative projects with a focus on landscape effects assessments, landscape characterisation, and public realm design review. Collaborating with Council Controlled Organizations (CCOs), other Council staff and highly experienced external consultants, you'll ensure development is consistent with national legislation.

 

As a representative of Te Kaunihera, your expertise will be sought after in various settings, including pre-application meetings, Auckland Urban Design Panels, Te Kaunihera / Council hearings, meetings, and forums. Your ability to provide expert advice on landscape architecture and landscape visual effects, will be crucial to this role. At the very heart of our mahi, the Tāmaki Makaurau Design Ope seeks to drive and support the move from Auckland to Tāmaki Makaurau.

He kōrero mōu: About you

To thrive in this role, you'll need a minimum of an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in landscape assessment.  You'll have honed your skills in landscape effects assessments, landscape characterisation, and public realm design. You'll also possess a sound understanding of resource consents processes, plan changes, and the regulatory requirements in the Local Government environment.

Your ability to provide specialised design advice for built form and landscape architecture matters will set you apart. Building and maintaining relationships will come naturally to you, and you'll thrive in a collaborative environment where we work together to achieve our goals. A good understanding of Te Tangi a te Manu: Aotearoa New Zealand Landscape Assessment Guidelines and the Auckland Unitary Plan is expected. Proficiency in software applications like Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up, CAD platforms, Microsoft Office, and hand drawing will be a useful asset.
