Company: Auckland Council

  • Showcase your skills in supporting the physical infrastructure development of marae

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council is working to achieve a transformational shift with and for Māori, and to deliver on Council’s vision of celebrating Tāmaki Makaurau Māori identity as our point of difference in the world.  As part of this journey, we want to develop a bold and contemporary response to Te Tiriti o Waitangi as it applies to Auckland Council – ensuring that we honour both our legislative obligations and the spirit of Te Tiriti relationships.

In line with this vision and as part of the Project Specialisation Office team within Community Facilities, you will lead projects within the Auckland region. Your focus will be on supporting the physical infrastructure development of marae and enhancing relationships.

Delivery will be driven by detailed design, consent and tender process management and overseeing the delivery of works to project close/finish. You will need to deploy your excellent communication skills throughout the process as you consult with a wide range of stakeholders such as marae, council staff and contractors to ensure a "best-fit" solution is delivered to the benefit of marae and the wider community.

Ideally, you will already have experience in the maintenance and build areas, as this will hold you in good stead when it comes to understanding the issues and impacts of projects on local communities.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We need a pragmatic individual with political nous who guides outcomes through influence and good communication. You will have proven relevant experience in maintenance, capital works and/or renewals projects and programmes (based in construction, engineering and/or architecture).

These skills will be evident in delivering projects and activities from start through to completion, an in-depth knowledge of programme and project management and their underlying concepts; you will have experience working in multi-disciplinary cross functional teams.

You will have the ability to make decisions on the spot, proven communication expertise, strong collaboration skills and the ability to ‘manage’ the quality outcomes of asset types, people and stakeholders. Relationship building, and collaboration will be core to your success in this role.

Alongside an understanding of the working functions and nuances of local and central government, you will be comfortable with change and ambiguity. Finally, to be successful in this role you will need to be able to listen and understand while also being able to think for yourself.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

We will offer you a career enhancing opportunity, competitive remuneration and to be part of Auckland’s meaningful history. You will be part of a small team that is passionate about what we do. Working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday; you will have some flexibility with how those hours are set.

If you are high performing, passionate about Auckland and the world around you and would like the chance to facilitate making tangible and visible improvements to our environment, then join us.
