Senior Librarian Community Engagement | Onehunga/Oranga Hub 

 


Join Auckland Libraries and make a difference in your community by delivering exceptional customer service, supporting literacy and learning, and helping Aucklanders thrive. Based in the Onehunga | Oranga hub, you may be required to work across the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki local board. This is 38-hour position and is currently worked Tuesday-Saturday.

 

We’re looking for a passionate, people-focused leader to join our libraries whānau as a Senior Library and Community Engagement. In this role, you’ll foster a strong sense of community by building meaningful relationships, creating inclusive programmes, and championing the library as a welcoming hub for learning, connection, and growth.

You’re a natural connector who builds strong relationships and works collaboratively to co-design community programmes that reduce isolation. You lead by example, support a high-performing team, and champion literacy, inclusion, and access to resources. Confident in mentoring others, you help grow skills and cultural capability, while keeping daily operations running smoothly in a safe, welcoming environment.

Most importantly, you’re committed to embedding te ao Māori and te reo Māori into everyday practice, creating a library experience that’s inclusive, meaningful, and reflective of the communities we serve.

 

To guide you further you’ll need:

 

  • A recognised library qualification or tertiary qualification in a related discipline
  • LIANZA professional registration (or working toward)
  • Confidence in team leadership, coaching, and building team culture
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and experience working with diverse communities
  • Excellent digital and information literacy, with the ability to support customers and staff
  • A passion for empowering others, and the resilience to manage complex or sensitive situations
  • Comfort using te reo Māori in everyday work and commitment to bicultural service delivery

The band for this role is Band F with the budgeted salary range from $ 76,160 - $ 89,600 per depending on skillset and experience.
