The Ngā Mātārae Partnerships & Engagement team is searching for a passionate motivated, experienced, self-managing
Senior Engagement Advisor. 


This is a critical role and provides an exciting opportunity to develop, build and strengthen relationships with mana whenua and mātāwaka in the Tāmaki Makaurau rohe ensuring meaningful engagement and impactful partnerships.
 

In this role, you will need to show initiative and work alongside our Principal Engagement advisors to 
-    implement best-practice engagement strategies, 
-    create, review and improve processes, procedures and tools in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, where change is constant. 
-    contract manage from negotiation to monitoring and extract key themes data and insights for reporting to our Tumuaki and the wider Ngā Mātārae team. 
-    support our commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and advancing Māori outcomes.

 

You may work in one or across all three spatial areas, fostering strong, enduring relationships with Māori communities and key stakeholders across the region.
Day-to-day you can expect to:
•    Apply te ao Māori and kaupapa Māori approaches to strengthen partnerships with mana whenua and mataawaka.
•    Use best-practice engagement methodologies, frameworks, and tools to support Māori-led initiatives
•    Maintain and grow strong relationships with key internal and external partners, including Houkura (Independent Māori Statutory Board).
•    Provide strategic insights and evidence-based recommendations to inform partnership approaches within Ngā Mātārae and the wider Auckland Council group

We are looking for a highly skilled professional with strong experience in partnership development, engagement, and relationship management someone who thrives in working with Māori communities and within kaupapa Māori settings.
 

To excel in this role, you will have:
•    A deep understanding of mana whenua and mātāwaka within the Tāmaki Makaurau context and demonstrate an ability to work with Māori communities
     in a meaningful way.
•    Be an excellent communicator and report writer. 
•    Proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga or a strong commitment to learning and upholding Māori cultural values.
•    Experience in engagement, consultation, or relationship management within government, iwi organisations, or community settings.
•    A solid understanding of local government functions and the ability to work effectively with elected members, senior staff, and executive leaders.
