He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Emergency Management team has an opportunity for a full time Senior Community Planning & Readiness Advisor to join this dedicated and passionate team.

Please note: this role is fixed term ending 30th June 2026.

Reporting to the Team Manager of Community Planning & Readiness, this essential role involves leading emergency efforts with local boards and their communities.

Your responsibilities include working with the local board members of Kaipātiki, Devonport-Takapuna and Waiheke to embed their local board emergency readiness and response plans, as well as facilitating conversations to help community groups to prepare to support their whanau and communities before, during and after an emergency event. Your approach will be customised to meet the unique needs of each community and local board.

This role is required to participate in the CDEM on-call and stand-by emergency response system and will be required to support emergency response during activation to provide support to a variety of function leads under the CIMS structure. Given the short-term nature of this fixed-term position, there will be no requirement to be part of the 24/7 duty roster and participation will focus on completing the relevant training rather than being part of the active duty roster.

You could expect to work on:
•    Identifying and building relationships with community leaders, local boards and elected members to ensure active involvement in emergency readiness conversations
•    Embedding the adopted Local Board Emergency Readiness and Response Plans
•    Organising and facilitating workshops and engagement sessions with a variety of community stakeholders to gather valuable local insights
•    Attending community events and networking opportunities to promote and advocate for community and local emergency preparedness
•    Managing projects to support the development of the team’s programmes
