Working in a dynamic team environment, this role is varied and motivating with the opportunity to make a real impact through enabling positive outcomes for Auckland’s environment and people.

You will be part of the highly regarded Earth, Streams, and Trees team working on a wide range of interesting and challenging development projects, including major subdivisions and infrastructure of national significance. We cover the entire Auckland region and are passionate about preventing and minimising environmental risks to trees whilst promoting sustainable development in our fast-growing city.

We are seeking an individual with at least 5 years’ experience in the arboricultural profession.  Experience of tree evaluation in urban and rural contexts is essential.  You will be working with a wide range of customers across the region, assessing and providing specialist technical arboricultural input around managing the effects of works on and around trees. This includes work for our resource consenting teams as well as assisting our colleagues in the monitoring and compliance teams, influencing policy, and designing and delivering training to key audiences.

As a Senior, you will have opportunity to apply your coaching and mentoring skills and assist with delivery of training and support the team leader.

He kōrero mōu: About you

This role would suit an experienced Arborist who is keen to apply their skills to assess the range of potential environmental impacts of development on trees, particularly in an urban and rural context.

You will be expected to work with applicants and planners to seek the best practical environmental outcomes using a proactive and solution-driven approach. You must be competent in critically evaluating complex proposals in consent applications. You are also looking to broaden your experience and enhance your environmental awareness of Auckland’s environment.

• A tertiary qualification in arboriculture (or related discipline)
• Extensive experience in the arboricultural industry, specifically in tree evaluation in an urban and rural context
• A tree risk assessment qualification (TRAQ, QTRA or equivalent)
• Experience and understanding of the Resource Management Act and associated planning legislation and knowledge of council process
• An understanding of the Auckland Council regulatory framework in relation to trees is desirable.

Salary range will be $99,000 - $120,000 (depending on experience)
