Auckland Emergency Management (AEM) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Advisor Volunteers to join the Operations Unit. This critical role strengthens Tāmaki Makaurau’s emergency response capability, with a strong focus on supporting Auckland-based New Zealand Response Teams (NZRTs) and enabling effective collaboration with volunteer groups and partner agencies that contribute volunteer capability to emergency response.
You could expect to work on:
• Providing operational oversight of Auckland-based NZRTs, including training, recruitment & retention, health & safety and capability development.
• Building strong, trusted relationships with volunteer organisations and partner agencies.
• Developing and maintaining plans and local agreements with volunteer organisations and agencies that contribute volunteer capability to emergency response.
• Participating in the duty team roster and maintaining operational readiness as duty officer or duty manager.
• Contributing leadership during emergency response as required.

This role requires experience in emergency management and volunteer coordination within large, complex, and potentially political organisations.
We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:
• Personal resilience and demonstrated ability to work in high pressure and dynamic environments.
• Strong understanding of how to effectively manage and support volunteer groups in an operational context (preferably in an emergency response context).
• An excellent communicator who can make an impact in a variety of settings and to a range of audiences.
• Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management expertise.
• Strong understanding of the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS).

Salary range: $100k-$120k depending on experience
