Auckland Emergency Management (AEM) comprises Auckland Council working in partnership with emergency services and other organisations to ensure the effective delivery of civil defence emergency management. AEM’s role is to provide a coordinated and integrated approach to the way significant risks and hazards are managed in the Auckland region across the four 'R's: reduction, readiness, response and recovery.

 

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

In your new role of Senior Advisor Volunteers, you will be responsible for initiating, developing, and implementing plans for volunteer engagement to support emergency response efforts in Tāmaki Makaurau. 

You will provide leadership and support to the Auckland Response Teams (RTs) for the training and response work they undertake across a range of specialist response functions, while also building and maintaining capability and competence within the team to carry out rostered duties. 


This role also includes managing a range of stakeholder relationships and the volunteer relationships in this space. 


A key part of the role is taking part in the duty team roster, as duty officer and then building towards the role of duty manager. You’ll carry out a senior role during response, in one or more function areas as required. This will require attention to detail and the ability to handle several tasks at once.

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

This role is well suited to previous experience in emergency management, community resilience programmes, community engagement or a similar field. You could bring a tertiary qualification in a relevant area such as emergency management, social sciences or similar. 

 

You will be technically savvy and have experience coordinating teams of people and response efforts.  Ideally you will bring some experience in emergency response as a team member or volunteer and familiarity working with diverse communities, agencies and businesses on programmes covering volunteerism, sponsorship, or strategic partnerships. The ability to work as part of a team and a high degree of personal resilience are required in this role. 

 

Project delivery experience working within multi-disciplinary or local government environments will be an advantage, as is familiarity with the 4Rs to support communities, organisations and local boards develop increased levels of community resilience.
