He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council is seeking a highly capable Security Specialist to join our Security Services team within Corporate Property. This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity, with the primary objective of implementing audit and Protective Security Requirements (PSR) review recommendations.

This role is pivotal in supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of our people and the wider Auckland community by enhancing the physical security of our facilities and operations. You will provide expert advice, deliver detailed reporting, and collaborate with stakeholders to uplift security systems, processes, and risk mitigation frameworks.

The successful candidate will operate in a complex, high-trust environment where professionalism, discretion, and critical thinking are paramount. There is the potential for longer-term operational employment beyond the initial term for the right individual.

You are an analytical and solutions-focused professional with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across a wide stakeholder base and operate effectively within a small project delivery team.

Your background will include:

  • Proven experience in physical security, enforcement, investigations, or a closely related field.
  • Sound understanding of how physical security aligns with broader risk management and organisational resilience frameworks.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, with the ability to produce high-quality, structured reports.
  • Critical thinking and the ability to proactively anticipate and mitigate security risks.
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills, with a professional and customer-centric approach.
  • The ability to utilise incident analysis and trend forecasting to drive preventative security strategies.

Ideally, you will have:

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • A relevant qualification in a security or risk management discipline (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • A full and current New Zealand driver's licence.

Important to note:
This is a Physical Security role, distinct from ICT or Cyber Security domains.
It may be suitable for candidates from security industry, enforcement, military, or policing backgrounds, or for project managers or business analysts seeking a career shift into security operations.
