We’re looking for a strategic and passionate leader to join Auckland Council as a Regional Advisor. This is a permanent opportunity to shape the future of our Regional Parks network by driving business improvement, operational excellence, and strategic leadership.
What you’ll do:
- Lead continuous improvement in planning, processes, and service delivery.
- Manage and implement the Regional Parks Management Plan 2022 (RPMP)—setting priorities, leading key projects, and embedding best-practice operational planning.
- Champion inclusivity, adaptability, and a strong health and safety culture.
- Collaborate with mana whenua, elected members, local boards, and internal teams to deliver outcomes that reflect community needs.
- Align long-term strategy with practical solutions to ensure our parks remain resilient and well-managed for future generations.

Auckland’s Regional Parks are a taonga, providing spaces for recreation, biodiversity protection, and cultural connection. This role is critical in shaping the future of these parks by turning strategic plans into real-world outcomes that benefit communities and the environment. As Regional Advisor, you’ll ensure our parks remain sustainable, inclusive, and resilient—balancing conservation with public enjoyment, and embedding Te Tiriti principles into everything we do. Your leadership will directly influence how generations experience and value these unique spaces.
Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities
Whilst championing a culture of continuous improvement, your key responsibilities will include:
- Leadership & Business Improvement: Drive initiatives that streamline processes, optimise resources, and enhance overall performance.
- Regional Parks Management Plan (RPMP): Lead the implementation of the RPMP 2022, translating strategic objectives into practical, measurable results.
- Project & Programme Delivery: Oversee projects that deliver tangible improvements in planning and service delivery across the region.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong partnerships with mana whenua, local boards, and industry partners to ensure collaborative outcomes.

We’re looking for someone who can build strong, collaborative relationships across a wide range of internal teams and external partners. You’ll bring proven experience in working in partnership to achieve excellent outcomes, along with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills. Your ability to engage confidently and influence effectively will be key to driving success in this role.
What We’re Looking For:
- A degree-level tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g., parks, open space, recreation, policy/planning, natural resource management).
- 5–8 years’ experience in a senior advisory or leadership role in programme development and management.
- Demonstrated experience leading programmes with significant community interest, ensuring a high level of customer focus and a strong track record of delivery.
- Proven ability to deliver results and drive innovation in a high-profile public environment.
