We have 2x 6-month fixed term roles over our busy summer period focus on public engagement, as a Park Ranger you will be responsible for enabling safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences in regional park settings, ensuring assets are in working condition and protecting natural and cultural heritage resources.
These are 2x 6-month fixed term, full-time positions and require working 80 hours a fortnight. You will be part of an on-call roster including working some weekends and public holidays and being available after hours.
The Northern Sector team manage 12 regional parks:
- Long Bay
- Shakespear
- Wenderholm
- Te Muri
- Mahurangi West
- Mahurangi East
- Scandrett
- Tawharanui
- Pakiri
- Te Arai
- Atiu Creek
- Glenfern Sanctuary on Aotea/Great Barrier Island
The reporting base for this role is at Wenderholm Regional Park, but you will work regularly throughout the Northern Sector parks network as required, transport provided.
Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities
- Engage with the public visiting our parks, providing information, educating public around bylaws and parks values
- Lead and participate in planning of day-to-day operations
- Complete work programme tasks for conservation and recreation
- Be responsible for park asset maintenance, events, farm outcomes
- Facilitate volunteering and events to engage visitors with the parks
- Manage campground and bach visits to ensure great customer experiences

The renumeration range for this role is $62k - $74k, depending on skillset and experience.

We are looking for a motivated, practical, customer focused individual, to join the Northern Sector ranger team, who can add value and contribute to a committed team.
We are looking for a proactive and physically fit individual with a positive attitude and strong practical skills. You’ll have excellent communication and time management abilities and feel confident working independently across diverse projects. Experience engaging with community groups, volunteers, and Mana Whenua is essential.
We are looking for:
- A candidate confident in engaging with the public
- Parks and/or land management qualification(s) would be desirable along with other appropriate licenses to support public safety and environmental protection.
- A current and clean NZ driver's license
- Experience with a range of tools and equipment
