This is a brilliant opportunity to lead the structural engineering function at Auckland Council.


Lead a team of structural engineering specialists, providing strategic and technical leadership across the Council’s most complex and high profile projects. Be the senior subject matter expert for structural engineering, responsible for critical decision-making, advanced technical advice, and ensuring the delivery of timely, customer-focused assessments and value engineering.


You could expect to work on:

  • overseeing the structural engineering input into the building consent process, managing technical risks, and promoting structural engineering excellence across the Council
  • providing expert advice to senior leaders, including the Chief Engineer and Head of Engineering and Technical Services
  • representing the Council in legal proceedings related to structural engineering matters
  • coaching, motivating and developing your team to deliver exceptional customer service and advanced engineering competencies

He kōrero mōu: About you


With a Bachelor of Engineering with a specialisation in Structural Engineering, you have extensive experience in the structural engineering field.  You are a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accredited by Engineering New Zealand, or demonstrate equivalent capability to operate at the CPEng level.

 

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

 

  • a deep understanding of New Zealand’s building legislation, including the Building Act, Building Code, Health and Safety at Work Act (2015), and relevant engineering standards and codes of practice
  • a strong background in design, peer review, seismic assessments and construction monitoring across residential, commercial and industrial projects
  • expertise in evaluating complex building consent applications and providing high-quality structural engineering advice
  • proficiency in relevant structural engineering software packages
  • excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service

 

In addition to your technical capabilities, you demonstrate proven leadership experience—guiding and mentoring engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence, and contributing to strategic decision-making. Your ability to lead with integrity and inspire others will be key to driving performance and innovation.
