He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

 

We’re looking for a sharp, driven media and communications professional to join and help tell our region’s story to the world. This role is for someone with exceptional verbal communication skills, content creation and writing ability, strong media instincts, and the confidence to operate at pace. You’ll be skilled at earning the trust and confidence of journalists and stakeholders, and comfortable working across a diverse organisation – supporting senior leaders with accurate, timely, and reliable advice. It’s an exciting time here at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited as the organisation continues to champion Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland as the best place to live, work and visit. 
 

Your responsibilities:  
•    Develop and deliver media, communications and public relations plans to promote and champion Tātaki Auckland Unlimited activities and Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland 
•    Create compelling content for various platforms and audiences including press releases, social media and our website 
•    Driving proactive storytelling while confidently managing reactive enquiries  
•    Monitoring  media coverage and trends and providing  insights to support campaigns and strategic decision-making
•    Support the organisation’s spokespeople with media training and briefings.

You love Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, you’re a natural storyteller, an excellent writer and content expert. You’re a plain English pro who encourages and champions the use of Te Reo Māori. You have a strong understanding of the media landscape, are a news junkie who keeps across current affairs trends to identify emerging opportunities or risks. 
  

Skills and experience that will be highly regarded: 
•    5 years’ media, public relations and/or communications experience 
•    Previous experience in television news, including an understanding of newsroom operations and broadcast media environments, would be an advantage 
•    Excellent communication and written skills 
•    Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills 
•    A collaborative team player who brings out the best in others 
•    Naturally inquisitive and comfortable with asking the difficult questions
