Auckland Council’s Elections Programme Team has an exciting opportunity for a Marketing and Communications Lead to join us for the 2025 elections campaign. This fixed-term position runs to 14 November 2025, reporting directly to the Head of Marketing & Publicity. As the Marketing & Communications Lead, you’ll be at the heart of shaping our strategy and driving impactful campaigns aimed at boosting candidate diversity and voter engagement in Auckland.
You will work closely with a Senior Communications Advisor, focusing on developing and delivering a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that builds on previous successes and addresses current needs. Your role will be pivotal in mobilising our diverse communities, enhancing voter participation, and ensuring our election campaigns meet their objectives.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Developing and implementing the marketing and communications strategy for the 2025 local body elections.
- Overseeing the execution of marketing programmes, campaigns, and event promotions.
- Managing budgets, timelines, and performance reviews for all election-related initiatives.
- Acting as the primary contact for election communication strategy within the organisation.
- Identifying and managing reputational risks and reporting on campaign effectiveness.

This role requires experience in similar marketing and communications roles, with a sound understanding of election campaign dynamics. You’ll bring a strategic mindset, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach to drive successful outcomes.
We will be looking for specific experience with:
- Leading marketing strategies for election campaigns.
- Managing complex projects with clear objectives, budgets, and timelines.
- Engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders and maintaining strong relationships.
- Demonstrating cultural awareness and contributing to increased community participation.
- A minimum of 7 years’ professional experience in communication and marketing and experience in a local government context will be highly advantageous.
