In your new role, you will lead and own the strategic thinking required in the communications space, to enable us to deliver beneficial outcomes for our co-governance entities, and as requested for co-management entities.

Reporting to the Head of Co-Governance, you will be involved in deepening our existing media and creative agency relationships, developing communications plans and strategies for projects, enhancing each entity’s unique brand offering and overseeing any website development.

You will also act as the strategic communications, public relations, and media advisor to the Chairperson of each co-governance entity, and the sole media liaison.

With a sophisticated understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi / te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Māori, you’ve previously worked with Iwi and Hapū and you possess excellent knowledge of te reo me tikanga Māori.

Your resume will demonstrate substantial relevant Senior Communications or Stakeholder Management experience ideally within the public sector and is backed by a tertiary qualification in Communications or similar.

You are an influencer focused on delivering outcomes. A strategic thinker, you can view all activity through the lens of the broader, long term vision. You can guide others, helping to navigate the path to practically implementing the mana whenua worldview.

We are looking for someone energetic and passionate, with the ability to confidently lead political fora and discussions. Your political acumen will enable you to engage with and influence senior decision makers.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a great team; to use your knowledge, skills and leadership, and help foster a culture of excellent co-governance understanding, knowledge and practice at Auckland Council.

You will join a small, high-performing team working directly with each entity and managing the governance linked to their work programmes while ensuring their bespoke legislative commitments, statutory framework and purpose/objectives are reflected in their policies and practices, and the way in which their decisions are implemented.
