He angitūtanga: The opportunity
This is a role to the Animal Management team where you will lead a team of Specialists in the Animal Management field including Principal Specialists, Senior Animal Management Specialist, Senior Analyst and Barking Advisors. Reporting to the Animal Management Unit Manager, you will need to drive high performance and regional consistency across Field Services and Regional Shelters.
Your team provides advanced professional specialist advice in areas such as but not limited to legislative interpretation, best practice in compliance, enforcement and animal shelter services, fostering regional and national consistency for compliance activity, successful education programmes, health and welfare of dogs, and industry-leading innovations in animal management. The team provides analysis and intelligence that ensure that Animal Management activities lead to a reduction in animal related harm. 
A key aspect of your role will be to provide coaching and mentoring for team leaders and staff whilst developing your team to enable them to drive a first-class culture and achieve outstanding results.
You will work collaboratively, building and maintaining successful, meaningful relationships across Auckland Council, including with elected members, where developing and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders is critical to the success of this role. You will also work with the local community and major external organisations such as the SPCA, Police, Housing New Zealand and other relevant agencies.
He kōrero mōu: About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in policy, animal management or other relevant discipline, you will ideally have experience in the field of Animal Management or compliance/enforcement/investigation in a regulatory environment or local government with experience in policy development and implementation, a working knowledge of the Dog Control Act 1996 and the Animal Welfare Act 1999 is desirable but not essential and you need to have a current full and clean New Zealand drivers licence.
