He angitūtanga: The opportunity

In the role of Kaitohutohu Hōtaka -Programme Advisor you will champion Māori wellbeing andcultural recognition across Tāmaki Makaurau through programmes that get tamariki and whānau active. You’ll build and nurture trusted relationships with Mana Whenua and Māori delivery partners, support the development of locally tailored programmes, and guide local boards toward stronger Māori outcomes. You’ll also contribute to the delivery of key cultural milestones such as Matariki and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

 

Te hiranga o tēnei mahi: Why this role matters

In this pivotal position you will be ensuring the value of te ao Māori is upheld, and supporting kaitiakitanga. You will establish partnerships that are led by Māori, for Māori delivery approaches, nurturing activation programmes that truly meet community needs and support our Tāmaki Ora Māori Outcomes Plan.

 

Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities

  • Build and support Māori delivery partners to deliver local board–funded activation programmes tailored to Māori communities.
  • Provide quality advice and guidance to local boards, community colleagues, and partners on Māori programme outcomes, quarterly reporting, and presentations.
  • Advocate with local boards to secure budgets and commitments toward Māori activation outcomes.
  • Maintain positive relationships with Mana Whenua and mātāwaka groups, assisting across departmental initiatives including cultural events.
  • Contribute to planning and delivery of events such as Matariki and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, and support cultural capability development across the Community Wellbeing directorate.


He kōrero mōu: About You

We’re seeking someone who is passionate about empowering Māori communities through physical activity and cultural engagement. You possess experience working with hāpori Māori and a tertiary qualification, and or working experience in Māori Studies, Te Reo Māori teaching, adult education, or a related field.

  • You have a deep understanding of Māori tikanga, te reo, and the ability to apply this knowledge in community settings.
  • Your skills include proficiency in Microsoft Office, a commitment to role-modelling wellbeing through physical activity
  • Must possess a valid NZ driver’s licence
