He angitūtanga: The opportunity

As a Junior Development Engineer, you’ll propel your career forward within Auckland Council’s Regulatory Engineering unit and play an important role in ensuring development across the region achieves the right outcomes for our customers and our environment. Working in a team of specialists, you will apply your engineering expertise to Building and Resource consents and asset approvals processed by Council and see the developments through to construction and completion. At times you’ll be on site inspecting the project’s progress and ensuring new land and building development meets Council and national standards. Other times you’ll be assisting in project managing applications to ensure Council has a coordinated approach, as well as reviewing applications to ensure they are compliant with the Resource Management Act, Building Act and other codes and standards. This role will see you build and develop your technical experience by working closely with Senior Engineers, Planners, Building Officers, and other experts in the field.

We have positions available in Henderson and Orewa.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll hold a tertiary qualification in civil or environmental engineering, and have around two years engineering work experience. Previous exposure to working in local government is highly desirable, though not essential. Knowledge of relevant legislation (including the RMA, Building Act, and District/Regional Plans) is valuable, as is prior experience writing engineering assessments and completing site-based inspections. As you’ll be working closely with a diverse range of customers, specialists and experts, you’ll be a skilled communicator and a collaborative team player. As this role might require you to occasionally travel around the region using Council vehicles, you’ll also hold a current New Zealand driver’s license.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

There are endless opportunities to develop your career in engineering across the Council group; this position will expose you to a range of specialisations and potential job trajectories. When you join the Regulatory Engineering team, you’ll be working on some of Auckland’s largest projects and play a key part in delivering high quality developments and buildings for all Aucklanders. Our division facilitates a wide range of projects, from nationally significant infrastructure projects to houses, apartment buildings and shopping centres.

We offer flexible working arrangements and a competitive salary. As a Council employee, you’ll gain access to a vast range of benefits and discounts, including discounted insurance, gym membership and more. You’ll be joining a team of dedicated and respected experts working collaboratively across the region to contribute to Auckland’s growth and development. We are committed to diversity, and have a culture built on trust and valuing individual as well as collective contributions.
