Auckland Council Group is one of the largest and most complex local government organisations in Australasia, overseeing significant public assets and services for 1.7 million Aucklanders. 


We are appointing an Independent Member to the Audit & Risk Committee an influential role providing assurance and risk oversight across the Council and its Council‑Controlled Organisations (CCOs).

 

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

The Committee strengthens system integrity across the Group, overseeing:
•    Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) across the Auckland Council Group
•    Internal and external audit and assurance
•    Cyber security and data
•    Health, safety and wellbeing
•    Business continuity and resilience
•    Integrity and investigations
•    Monitoring compliance with laws and regulations
•    Risk management for significant projects, programmes and procurement
•    Oversight of the Long‑term Plan (LTP), Annual Report and other statutory external financial reporting

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

Skills and experience required:
•    Senior credibility in audit, assurance and strategic risk
•    Leadership experience within large complex organisations(listed entity or equivalent public accountability)
•    High financial literacy with focus on sustainability and prudence
•    Ability to build productive relationships with the Governing Body, Council executives, CCO boards and the Office of the Auditor‑General
•    Experience in large, complex organisations across public and private sectors
•    Awareness of the reputational context of a large public sector organisation
•    Commitment to Te‑Tāruke‑ā‑Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan
•    Understanding of health and safety governance

 

Useful but not essential:
•    Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification
•    Understanding of complex systems and processes
•    Experience in data management and reporting

 

Term of appointment

 

Three‑year term, with potential re‑appointment for a further three years subject to performance.
