Community Facilities provides world-class open space and building facilities that are financially considered and deliver on Auckland's expectations and aspirations. As kaitiaki (guardian) of facilities, we have an important role in facilitating the wider social, economic, environmental and cultural outcomes that promote the wellbeing of our communities.

The Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Lead is a pivotal role that critically supports and advises on health and safety management across Community Facilities at all levels. This includes liaising with a number of different partners, both internally and externally, such as contractors. Reporting to the Manager HSW you will be responsible for educating our people and the wider HSW team within Community Facilities on integrating best practice into day to day work activities with a business focussed, problem-solving approach. You will be seeking to establish yourself as a ‘best in class’ HSW Practitioner working towards a ‘safety differently approach’. Your duties will include building safety capability through targeted training, coaching and mentoring, best practice risk-based system development and implementation, contract management from setup through to and including post-project feedback alongside continuing learning and development, information dissemination, audit coordination and being involved in continuous improvement programmes.


He kōrero mōu: About you


With 7+ years’ experience in HSW within a medium to large public sector, corporate, industrial or construction environment, you will also have demonstrated skills and experience in the implementation and monitoring of HSW management systems, inspections, audits, incident and accident investigations, hazard identification and risk assessments, subcontractor management and standard operating procedures.

To be successful in this role this role you will bring proven experience in supporting the resolution of HSW. Alongside a tertiary qualification in HSW (or similar – minimum Certificate, Diploma preferred) you must be able to attain Graduate membership with NZISM (or international equivalent). You will have excellent knowledge of NZ HSW legislation and in-depth knowledge of HSW best practice as well as AS/NZS 4801, 45001 or other relevant standards (ISO45001). In addition, facility management experience will be an advantage.
