Auckland Council has a purpose to “Create an Auckland we can all be proud of” and Auckland Council’s Communications and Marketing Department has an exciting opportunity for an inspiring leader to step into the role of Head of Brand and Channel to help us get there. This is a key position in our lead team, working across a wide range of functions.  

 

In this role, you will champion Auckland Council’s brand and channel strategies. Your leadership will guide a talented team, including design studio, production planning, brand, social media, media planning, the OurAuckland website and other channels. You will champion our brand and branding, integrated content and channel strategies, and continuous improvement of our production processes to enhance the effectiveness of our communications.

 

Your leadership will foster a high-performing and collaborative workplace culture, while you manage and build strong relationships with senior stakeholders both internally and externally.

 

Day-to-day you could expect to be involved in:

 

  • Leading and driving the communications strategy for Auckland Council, integrating brand and media planning across owned and paid channels
  • Developing and optimising branding across council campaigns and services
  • Build a high performing and highly engaged workplace culture, and demonstrate collaboration and cross functional relationships between teams, departments and divisions

We’re looking for a dynamic individual to guide our team in designing and executing impactful marketing strategies within a large, and multidisciplinary organisation.

 

In this role, you will leverage your proven leadership skills to drive effective communications. Your technical expertise, critical thinking, and strategic mindset will be crucial in solving complex challenges. Your business acumen, financial insight, and systems thinking will enable you to navigate with political savvy and influence. Your ability to build trust and forge strong partnerships with diverse stakeholders will be key to your success.

 

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in senior roles, with deep expertise in brand, media, and channel strategy. You should demonstrate a track record of driving strategic initiatives, managing complex projects, and leading high performing teams. A strong foundation in business, communications, or a related field is essential, along with the capability to thrive in a large and complex environment.

 

You will have a strong understanding of our Māori Responsiveness framework and Te Tiriti obligations to help drive the division’s Māori Responsiveness Plan.

 

We will be looking for specific experience:

 

  • At least 15 years of senior level experience in brand, media, creative and production, marketing or related disciplines
  • Proven leadership skills with over 10 years in management roles
  • Expertise in developing and implementing integrated communication programmes and media strategies
  • Experience driving channel improvement programmes and delivering content channels
  • Excellent political acumen, with a flexible, adaptable and pragmatic approach
