Our programme is designed to give our Planning Graduates an understanding of the full planning function at Council – from policy and plan development, to processing resource consents and monitoring consent conditions.


Your rotation goes across a number of business areas in both our Chief Planning Office (CPO) and Regulatory Services, giving you accelerated learning and development, all whilst helping make Tāmaki Makaurau a world-class city.


This is a unique opportunity for you to get exposure and experience across a range of Planning activities, including providing assistance and professional expertise in areas such as:

  • Resource consents– providing assistant to customers, processing consents, undertaking building consents, compliance planning checks.
  • Compliance Monitoring
  • Statutory planning, area spatial planning and place-making
  • Policy development and analysis
  • Strategy development and analysis
  • Unitary Plan / Auckland Plan development and monitoring

We welcome applications from graduates in the following disciplines:

  • Uban Planning 
  • Environmental Planning


To apply you must:

  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand, or eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
  • Have graduated in the last 2-years and hold a relevant Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree or be a current student and graduating by the end of January 2022.
