He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council's Events Unit has an opportunity for an Event Facilitator within the Event Facilitation team.
Based primarily in Manukau, you'll work closely with communities, event organisers, local boards and stakeholders across South/West, while occasionally supporting activity in other parts of Tāmaki Makaurau.
This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys helping others succeed. You'll be the person guiding event organisers through council processes, providing practical advice, building strong relationships and helping ensure events are safe, compliant and successful.
Whether supporting a local community celebration, cultural festival, sporting event or neighbourhood gathering, your work will help bring communities together and create positive experiences for Aucklanders.
You'll play an important role in supporting community organisations and event organisers to navigate Auckland Council requirements while helping to build capability and confidence across the local events sector. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you'll help ensure events are delivered safely, responsibly and in a way that reflects the diverse needs of our communities.
Please note: This is a fixed-term opportunity through to 9 July 2027, covering a period of parental leave.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Facilitating and processing event permit applications in accordance with Auckland Council requirements
- Supporting community groups, event organisers and stakeholders with advice and guidance throughout the event planning process
- Monitoring permitted events and assisting with compliance-related matters
- Building strong relationships with local boards, community organisations and event sector stakeholders
- Contributing to local event programmes and annual event activity planning
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and helping deliver consistent event facilitation practices
- Supporting the delivery of local events and community initiatives when required

You'll be an enthusiastic, motivated and collaborative professional who enjoys working with people and helping others achieve successful outcomes. You understand how to balance customer needs with regulatory requirements and can confidently manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Whether your experience comes from events, project coordination, community engagement, hospitality, local government or a related field, you'll bring strong organisational skills, sound judgement and a genuine passion for supporting Auckland's communities.
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience coordinating events, projects, programmes or community initiatives in a complex environment
- Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building and customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with diverse communities and stakeholders
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence
It would be advantageous if you also bring:
- A qualification in event management, hospitality, communications, marketing, public relations, business or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience in a similar field.
- Experience working within local government, community organisations or regulatory environments
- Knowledge of event permitting, compliance or community-led events
- An understanding of te ao Māori and a willingness to continue developing your capability in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori
- Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety on an event site
