He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our team provides expert terrestrial ecological and natural features advice and support across Council including resource consents, policy, parks management, and biosecurity and biodiversity programmes, as well as managing our own projects, to ensure the protection and restoration of indigenous ecosystems, habitats, and species on public and private land.
We are looking for ecologists or natural sciences experts to join our team. This is a Fixed Term opportunity, ending 10/04/2026. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of helping achieve a flourishing and protected natural environment for Auckland! If you want exciting roles supported by a large and varied group of experts where you can use and grow your knowledge around terrestrial or wetland ecology, biosecurity management, geomorphology, geology, or freshwater ecology then come and join us!
This role has a strong regulatory focus in supporting Auckland Council’s consenting and compliance teams.
The team has a regional focus, and this role can be based in the City Centre or Albany alongside others in the team, with some flexibility to work in other locations.
He kōrero mōu: About you
We will look to you to provide expert advice and champion best practice, with a strong customer focus, to decision-makers and operational programs as well as delivering your own projects. You are collaborative, innovative, and passionate about delivering outcomes for Auckland’s natural environment. Ideally, you’ll have 3-5 year’s relevant work experience but don’t let this put you off if you are enthusiastic and a team player!
Experience as a project manager and working as an expert undertaking or reviewing effects assessments within the Resource Management Act will be particularly valued.

- A full NZ drivers’ licence is required
- This position is labelled a Safety Sensitive role - a Drug and Alcohol test will be conducted prior to offer
