He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council invites applications for a Director of the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Board (ARAFB), a statutory governance appointment for a term of three years. Under the Act, this appointee must be appropriate to represent the views of Māori in Auckland.

Established under the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Act 2008, the ARAFB raises and distributes a levy on Auckland Council as grants to specified amenities. This funding sustains the organisations that deliver services and facilities across the heritage, culture, arts, recreation, and rescue sectors for the benefit of all Aucklanders.

This is a compelling moment to join the Board. Council is currently pursuing reforms of the broader Arts and Culture sector with potential for review of the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Act. The incoming Director will play a meaningful role in supporting the success of the reform that will define Auckland’s cultural and community infrastructure funding for future generations.

The board is comprised of ten members, six appointed by Auckland Council and four appointed by the specified amenities.

He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for a leader who brings some or all of the following:

• Established connections to Māori communities in Auckland, with the ability to represent Māori perspectives effectively in board deliberations
• Governance experience, ideally in a relevant sector such as arts, cultural heritage, recreation, or community rescue services
• Familiarity with, or the capacity to quickly develop an understanding of, relevant legislation – including the current review of the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Act 2008
• Commercial acumen and a focus on achieving value for money and organisational sustainability
• An understanding of the public sector environment and the role and direction of Auckland Council
• The ability to work constructively across multiple stakeholders and contribute to a collegial board culture
