He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

Auckland Council's Environmental Services department has an opportunity for a Conservation Advisor within the Bio Delivery team, part of our Local Delivery teams covering North, Central/West, and South.

You'll contribute to integrated invasive species, indigenous ecosystem and species management projects, providing advice and support to mana whenua, landowners and community conservation groups to protect, restore and enhance Tāmaki Makaurau's natural environment.

 

This role can be based out of our City, West Auckland, or Albany offices, with flexibility to work across these locations depending on convenience.

 

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Supporting the delivery of community and iwi-led conservation projects — including resources, restoration advice, training and capacity building
  • Implementing the Regional Pest Management Plan at a local scale, including surveillance, compliance (e.g. park buffer rules), incursion response and direct delivery
  • Responding to requests for service and providing technical advice on integrated projects that protect and enhance biodiversity at priority sites
  • Delivering and managing local board projects
  • Supporting the schools' team to coordinate biodiversity and biosecurity education and engagement with local schools and communities
  • Supporting mana whenua, landowners and community groups to apply for council grant funding, and assessing and evaluating grant outcomes

 


He kōrero mōu: About you

 

This role requires experience in a similar conservation, biosecurity or biodiversity role, with a sound understanding of pest plant and animal management and integrated site management practices.

 

We are looking for someone with:

  • A genuine passion for the environment, with strengths leaning toward biodiversity/ecological research alongside biosecurity knowledge
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with experience working alongside landowners, community groups, and mana whenua
  • Experience in pest plant and animal management, and providing technical advice to support biodiversity outcomes
  • Contract management experience is an advantage, though not essential — this can be learned on the job
  • A full, clean NZ driver's licence
