Auckland Council’s Environmental Health Response team has an opportunity for a Compliance Officer – Noise to join a dedicated group committed to protecting community wellbeing.

 

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of responding to noise complaints, carrying out proactive investigations, and helping Aucklanders understand their rights and responsibilities.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

 

  • Responding promptly and accurately to noise complaints, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, SLAs, and KPIs
  • Carrying out proactive investigations, enforcement action, and noise monitoring (including background and pre/post‑consent assessments)
  • Supporting contracted Noise Control Officers and assisting with escalated or repeat noise issues
  • Managing escalated cases, keeping all parties informed, and liaising with senior staff and specialists as needed
  • Auditing contractor performance and contributing to continuous improvement across the team
  • Participating in out‑of‑hours duties and supporting other Environmental Health teams with low‑risk public health inspections during quieter periods

 

Please note: This role works standard business hours, with regular out‑of‑hours duties—particularly on Friday evenings and weekends, this will be managed through flexible working arrangements.

This role requires experience in similar regulatory or compliance-focused roles, with a sound understanding of investigative techniques, legislation, and customer-focused problem solving. You’ll be someone who thrives in dynamic environments, communicates confidently, and can navigate challenging situations with professionalism and empathy.

 

You’ll bring a strong commitment to continuous improvement, a collaborative working style, and the ability to balance enforcement with education. Your approach will be calm, fair, and solutions‑oriented, ensuring actions are proportionate and aligned with Council policies.

 

We will be looking for specific experience with:

 

  • Conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation in frontline regulatory environments
  • Applying legislation, assessment techniques, and sound problem‑solving
  • Working confidently with diverse communities and maintaining strong customer service standards
  • Excellent verbal communication and written communication
  • Computer skills & knowledge including Windows environment, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Holding a current NZ driver’s licence
  • At least two years’ experience working in a front-line regulatory enforcement environment.
  • A certificate in environmental noise measurement and assessment, or similar, is preferred but not essential.

The remuneration range is $76,160 - $80,640 (based on skills and experience)

Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
