He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The Community Wellbeing Department enhances community wellbeing through direct and partner-led services, including libraries, community centres and hubs, community development, sport and recreation, events, arts, culture and heritage, and tailored support for communities most in need.
Our team embraces the spirit of the wayfinder, drawing on proven practices and weaving in emerging ones to grow Pasifika capability across the organisation.
Through your rotations, you’ll contribute to uplifting the spirit of collectiveness and reciprocity—fostering community ownership that transforms ideas into action and guides shared practice to elevate outcomes for Auckland’s Pasifika communities. You’ll also receive in-house coaching to grow your understanding of participatory methodologies and how these can be enriched by indigenous approaches.

We’re seeking a dynamic and passionate graduate who embodies the drive and initiative needed to thrive in this unique role. Your basket is woven from the experiences of facilitation, capability building, participatory programming, community development, research and evaluation.
You are ready to develop a practice for social impact from a heart of indigenous values and methodologies, grounded in kaitiakitanga and activated to the benefit of the social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing of the Pasifika’s Tāmaki Makaurau community.

• Pacific Studies major
• Public Policy
• Social Work
• Libraries
• Anthropology
• Sociology
• Languages
To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand for more than 3 years without sponsorship
• Minimum of a relevant Bachelor’s degree completed January 2024 – January 2026
• A valid New Zealand restricted or full driver’s license (if role requires)
