Company: Auckland Council

• Build partnerships and support communities to lead conservation outcomes.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Community-powered conservation is helping transform Auckland's natural environment. Across Tāmaki Makaurau, volunteers, community groups, mana whenua and local groups are taking action to protect and restore our native biodiversity.
We are looking for a Community Conservation Advisor to join Auckland Council's Community Conservation and Engagement team.
This is not a traditional conservation delivery role. Success in this position comes from your ability to engage, influence and enable others. Rather than delivering conservation outcomes directly, you will help communities, partners and colleagues succeed by strengthening communication, capability and programme delivery.
You will work across a diverse portfolio including communications, digital engagement, capability building, programme delivery, partnerships and community-powered conservation initiatives.
Day-to-day you could expect to:
• Provide strategic input into the design, delivery and continuous improvement of community conservation programmes.
• Develop communications and engagement approaches that encourage participation and action.
• Create and manage digital content and online resources across websites, newsletters, campaigns and social media channels, including attention to user experience.
• Build strong relationships with community groups, stakeholders, mana whenua and colleagues across Auckland Council.
• Apply behavioural insights and engagement approaches to strengthen programme outcomes.
• Help build the capability of communities and organisations to lead conservation initiatives.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You bring strong strategic thinking and excellent communication skills, with the judgement to see the bigger picture and the ability to turn complex conservation challenges into practical, workable plans. You gain satisfaction from working through others, and you know how to use engagement and influence to deliver outcomes at scale.
To be successful, you'll bring:
• Strong judgement, initiative and strategic thinking.
• Excellent written communication and content development skills.
• Experience building productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong digital capability, including website content management and online communications.
• The ability to work collaboratively across teams and through partners.
• Experience developing and delivering communications, engagement or behaviour change initiatives.
• Sound project coordination and organisational skills.
A background in communications, engagement, community development, policy, behaviour change, environmental management or a related field would be advantageous. A genuine interest in conservation and environmental outcomes is essential.
Experience creating and managing digital content across websites, newsletters, social media and other online channels will be highly regarded. The ability to work with website content management systems (CMS) such as SharePoint, Umbraco, Craft CMS, WordPress or similar would be beneficial.
If engaging people, building partnerships and creating environmental impact appeals to you, we would love to hear from you.
