As a Business Development Manager with the Western Markets portfolio, your role’s purpose is to build Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland as a “must visit” destination from North America, Australia and UK/Europe for leisure visitors.
 

We are seeking an individual who can elevate Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland as a top leisure destination from these markets. You will be pivotal in activating networks to engage and advocate for Auckland’s tourism operators as a year-round tourism destination.
 

The role requires building and maintaining relationships with key partners, identifying growth opportunities in sectors such as leisure, VFR, and cruise, and promoting Māori tourism. Strong project management and relationship-building skills are essential, alongside the ability to drive Auckland’s value proposition in these key markets, focusing on strategic partnerships, and industry collaboration.

  • Excellent knowledge of the visitor sector and existing relationships with IBO’s, ITO’s and DMC’s selling New Zealand
  • Driven to achieve outcomes and empower others to use all resources to achieve the best results 
  • Highly organised – plans and prioritises well and manage time to focus on the most important activities 
  • Personal resilience – able to sustain a high level of energy and positivity during time when the organisation or team is under extreme pressures  
  • Highly developed interpersonal and relationship skills with the confidence to challenge as appropriate 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • You can pronounce and use basic te reo Māori in emails, meetings and conservations
