We are looking for a motivated and results-driven individual to join our team as a Business Development & Events Organiser, covering the Auckland Botanic Gardens and Domain Winter Gardens. This is a key role where you’ll collaborate with the Visitor Services Manager to handle event inquiries and actively seek new business opportunities to expand our event offerings. You’ll also play a crucial role in developing tourism experiences that highlight the rich stories of our plants while supporting revenue goals.

 

The opportunity:

We are seeking an enthusiastic, results driven individual for our new event and business development role covering Auckland Botanic Gardens and the Domain Winter Gardens.

Working alongside the Visitor Services Manager this role will be the central contact for discretionary event enquiries and to seek out new business opportunities to expand the portfolio of events that complement the core service delivery at the two gardens. The role will also be responsible for developing tourism and concessionaire experiences that convey the rich stories of our plants and support revenue targets.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are seeking an experienced professional with a deep understanding of the role of contemporary public gardens and at least 10 years of experience in the visitor services industry. The ideal candidate will possess highly developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, along with extensive knowledge and expertise in event planning, marketing, business, and tourism. A strong focus on customer and stakeholder needs is essential, as is a proven track record in delivering successful events and public programs. Exceptional organizational, planning, and project management skills are required, along with managing contracts and financial responsibilities to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. The successful candidate will be an articulate communicator with experience in writing reports, giving presentations, and developing strategic documents. Additionally, they should have a strong background in market research to inform business planning and be a complex problem solver. Experience working in local government is preferred, and a sound understanding of tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi issues and a working knowledge of tikanga and Te Reo is highly desirable.
