He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor Inspector with extensive experience to join the Premium Services team within Building Consents, to specialise in Reclad Inspections.

 

Reporting to the Team Leader Reclad Field Surveying, you will provide technical advice and contribute to the re-clad process for all consents, applying key principles and deliverables for the Building Control team and legislative requirements. This is a specialist role, where you will provide escalated advice and help to make decisions on relevant Building Act 2004, NZ Standards, NZS3604 and the Fencing & Pools Act 1987 and Building code aspects and technical issues raised by other business units.

 

As a go-to person on everything technical, you will be key in determining when Consents have demonstrated compliance with the Building Code and subsequently approving the issue of the consent. A large scope of your role involves cladding, external envelope, and weather tightness to not only ensure the integrity of the building but its ability to keep exterior elements out and interior elements inside.

 

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building consents, building codes, building consent authority’s ‘BCA’ policies, and other legislative requirements, and make appropriate technical decisions on inspection outcomes
  • Help increase customer understanding of the building code and Council processes by providing accurate and timely advice in a customer centric manner
  • Apply sound reasons for decisions and maintain accurate, robust records of inspections

 

He kōrero mōu: About you
We will be looking for individuals with the right experience and qualifications to match it. Your background will demonstrate considerable experience in Building and Construction, ideally in a regulatory environment where you have gained excellent knowledge of weather tightness principles and remediation design. Understanding the Local Government Act 2002, Building Act 2004, and/or the Resource Management Act 1991 would also be ideal.

 

Familiarity with effective monitoring disciplines and a good understanding of local authority building processes will ensure you are providing valuable advice on complex technical and procedural requirements to customers, builders, and developers. Furthermore, with a solid eye for detail, you are competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications and can easily adapt to new systems. A current New Zealand driver’s license is also required for the role. 

 

What we will be looking for:

  • An NZ Trade Certificate or equivalent related building industry qualification (or related discipline)
  • At least 5 years of cumulative experience in a building surveying and inspection-related regulatory environment
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Building Act, Building Code, and technical & structural integrity aspects of building design and construction standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service focus with a solution oriented approach, while upholding high ethical standards during inspections and enforcement activities
  • A full, clean NZ Driver’s License is required to travel to different inspection sites
