About the Museum:
The Auckland War Memorial Museum - Tāmaki Paenga Hira - tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people.
Auckland Council is seeking a new member to join the Museum Trust Board and continue this important mahi, supporting the Museum as a place of collective remembering and commemoration, inspiring innovation, curiosity, and learning, and acting as kaitiaki of the building, collections, and taonga held in trust for current and future generations.
About the role:
As a Trust Board Member, you will provide governance oversight of one of Auckland's most significant cultural and heritage institutions. You will help guide the Museum's stewardship of a nationally important asset base, support its financial sustainability, and its continued role as a place of remembrance, learning, and connection for Aucklanders.
About you:
We are looking for a director who brings relevant expertise to the Museum’s operating environment, including:
- Audit and risk expertise with capability to provide the board with strong financial oversight, seek value for money, and identify and make the most of commercial opportunities and other revenue streams
- Prior experience in oversight or leadership of capital renewals & asset management - the Museum has a significant programme of renewals underway and additional strength at board level to oversee the success of these projects is a priority
- Experience in the arts, culture and/or heritage sectors with an understanding of the funding environment and relevant stakeholders is desirable, particularly in combination with audit and risk or asset management expertise
- Passion for Auckland and improving outcomes for Aucklanders
